Summer 2009 will kick off with vengeance (pun intended) with the sequel to the 2007 box-office blockbuster Transformers. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen brings forth another battle between the heroic Autobots and villainous Decepticons.
Automotive enthusiasts who have seen the first movie and want to check out the sequel will see both new and familiar “faces”, many of which are based on current, upcoming, and concept cars built by General Motors. With everything so bleak at GM, this film could give the company a shot in the arm in terms of consumer interest.
Reprising their roles in Revenge of the Fallen are the following Autobots:
Ironhide, a weapons guru, transforms into a GMC Topkick medium-duty truck. Ratchet, the “doctor” of the group, transforms into a Hummer H2. The most notable returning character is Bumblebee. In the first movie, this Autobot was based on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro concept car. In Revenge, Bumblebee comes back as a stronger bot, with styling derived from the production Camaro SS.
The new Autobots for Revenge were introduced to the public at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. All are fighters designed to once again keep the Decepticons at bay. Jolt is based on the production version of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt. “The twins” Mudflap and Skids are based on the Chevrolet Trax concept and production 2011 Chevrolet Spark, respectively. Sideswipe has for its foundation the Corvette Sting Ray concept, a futuristic rendering of the classic 1959 Stingray design.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will hit theaters on June 26.
