2007 Ford F-150 Review
America's best-selling vehicle is available with a navigation system for 2007. F-150s come in regular cab, extended SuperCab, and crew cab SuperCrew versions. All have four doors. Rear doors on regulars and SuperCabs are rear hinged and don't open independently of the fronts. Extendeds and SuperCrews have a rear bench seat for up to six-passenger capacity. Cargo-bed lengths are 5.5 and 6.5 ft, and, for regular and SuperCabs, up to 8 ft. All boxes are flush-fender Stylesides; the 6.5 is also available as a bulged-fender Flareside. Engines are a 202-hp 4.2-liter V6, 248-hp 4.6 V8, and 300-hp 5.4 V8. A 5-speed manual transmission is with the V6. A 4-speed automatic is optional with the V6 and standard with V8s. All F-150s offer rear-wheel drive. V8s are available with 4-wheel drive that includes low-range gearing but should not be left engaged on dry pavement. ABS is standard. Traction control is available for 2WD V8s. Side airbags and curtain side airbags are unavailable. Trim levels ascend through work-oriented XL, sporty STX, mainstream XLT, off-road FX4, luxury Lariat, and SuperCrew-only King Ranch. A sport-themed FX2 package with specific trim is newly available for 2WD XLT SuperCabs and SuperCrews. Harley-Davidson versions are specially trimmed SuperCrews with the 5.4 V8, 2WD or 4WD, and a 5.5-ft Styleside box.

Competition
Consumer Guide® Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Large Pickup Trucks are traditionally the vehicles of choice for heavy-duty hauling and towing. They offer an array of cab styles and bed lengths and usually feature powerful V8 or diesel engines. For personal use, consider light-duty half-ton models. For heavy-duty or commercial use, consider three-quarter- or one-ton models.

We have no Best Buys in this class. Our Recommended picks are the Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic, Ford F-150, and GMC Sierra 1500 Classic.

New or significantly redesigned models include the Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tundra.
News
Ford may be in dire straits, but it's determined to defend the F-Series from new Chevrolet and GMC competition. As a result, 2009 models are said to get freshened styling, underskin improvements, and a new "Hurricane" V8 in either 5.8-liter and/or 6.2-liter sizes. A 6-cyl diesel and a 6-speed automatic transmission may be offered at the same time. Introduction is reportedly set for summer 2008. A similarly revamped Lincoln Mark LT is expected to start sale about four months later.
