The first 4-dr Wrangler, revised styling, and new safety features highlight this 2007 redesign. Wrangler continues in 2-dr and in extended-length Unlimited versions, but the Unlimited now has four doors. It's longer than the 2-dr by 20.6 inches in wheelbase and body, seats five vs. four, and has more cargo space. Both versions are about 5.5 inches wider than their 1997-2006 predecessors, and ride wheelbases longer by 2.0 inches and 12.6 inches, respectively. They also gain about 300 lb.

All Wranglers are available with a folding soft top or a removable hardtop. X, Sahara, and Rubicon models return. All have a 202-hp V6 that replaces 147-hp 4-cyl and 190-hp 6-cyl engines. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, a 4-speed automatic is optional. The 2-dr models are 4-wheel drive only. Unlimiteds come with rear drive or 4WD. Wrangler's 4WD system should not be left engaged on dry pavement but includes low-range gearing. Newly standard are ABS and an antiskid system with rollover sensors. New options include front side airbags designed to protect head and torso. Other new options include power windows, remote power locks, and a navigation system. A height-adjustable driver seat is standard on all but the X. Available features designed for severe off-road use include an electronic-disconnecting front stabilizer bar, locking differentials, and off-road-oriented tires.
