2010 Dodge Ram 3500
Chrysler redesigned the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 (pictured) Heavy Duty trucks for model-year 2010.
The Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty pickups are new for 2010. The Ram 1500 was redesigned for 2009 and got good reviews (including a Consumer Guide Best Buy honor) for its ride, handling, and quietness. Now it’s the Ram Heavy Duty’s turn for renewal. It’s normal for light-duty pickups to be revamped first, while the heavy-duty trucks soldier on for another year with the old design.

Most of the 1500’s revisions carry over to the 2500 and 3500, though not the 1500's rear coil springs. While great for ride, rear coils don’t satisfy the big rig’s heavy-load requirements, so conventional rear leaf springs are used instead. To smooth the ride, the rear of the cab is mounted on “fluid-filled hydromounts” which act as shock absorbers between the body and the frame.

Inside, Dodge aimed to add more convenient storage spaces and improve fit and finish. The last generation’s 4-door Quad Cab was not as roomy as the heavy-duty crew-cab trucks from competitors Ford and Chevrolet, and the only Dodge to offer more interior room was the Mega Cab. However, many thought the much larger Mega Cab was overkill, with its limo-like rear-seat room and resulting shorter bed. To address those concerns, Dodge dropped the Quad Cab and now offers an enlarged 4-door model called Crew Cab alongside its 2-door Regular Cab and 4-door Mega Cab models.
