Powerful

Porsche Museum
The 917 dominated racing in the early Seventies, winning numerous events including the 24-hour races at Daytona and Le Mans.

At this point, visitors can hang a left and gawk at perhaps the most exciting display at the museum, the 917s. They’re part of the “Powerful” display, for obvious reasons.

These cars dominated racing in the early Seventies, winning the Can-Am Series in 1972 and ’73 before new rules disqualified them. They featured a twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder boxer engine that topped out at 1200 bhp in the 917/30. A disassembled version of this engine is also on display.
