Porsche Museum: The Expression of an Idea

Among the concept vehicles on display is the Boxster that was originally shown at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show.
The next Idea display—Clever—is just around the corner. It is highlighted by concept cars and cars with technical innovations. The 1960 356 2000 GS Carrera GT (Carrera was added to the name of road cars equipped with race engines starting in 1955) featured a syncromesh transmission, a new look, and the high-performance 175-bhp Fuhrmann dohc engine. The concept cars include an early attempt at a four-seat 911, the Panamericana concept from 1989, and the beautiful midengine Boxster concept first seen at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show.

The now-iconic 911 model arrived for 1964.
Next come the 911s. Introduced at the Frankfurt Automobile Show in 1963, the 911 represented a new direction for Porsche. The car was bigger and more expensive than the 356, with six cylinders instead of four and transverse torsion bars and semitrailing arms instead of the VW-influenced swing-axle rear suspension. The legendary 911 has become synonymous with the Porsche brand and many more examples of the model are on display.
