Light

This display features some of the lightweight racers that competed in, and often won the legendary Sicilian road race, the Targa Florio. Shown are the 1969 718 RS 60 Spyder (front right), 1962 718 W-RS Spyder (front left), 1963 356 B 2000 GS Carrera GT (center right), 1969 908/02 Spyder (center left), 1973 911 Carrera RSR (rear right), and 1970 908/03 Spyder.

The road racers are part of the first Porsche Idea display: Light. Lightness creates an advantageous power-to-weight ratio, which manifests itself in quicker acceleration, shorter stopping distances, and more responsive handling.

The road racers on display all competed in the Targa Florio, the historic long-distance road race through the mountains of Sicily.

A display case holds lightweight components including an aluminum steering wheel, a balsa-wood control button, and a titanium crankshaft.

The most impressive part of this display, however, is the 286-pound fiberglass body of a Porsche 908 race car that hangs in a corner.
