Toyota Highlander Hybrid

2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
Highlander sets itself apart in this group by being the least-expensive vehicle to offer a third-row seat for seven-passenger capacity.

It also comes standard with all-wheel drive and a V6 engine, all of which penalizes its EPA numbers compared with those of the 4-cylinder Vue and the Escape, Mariner, and Tribute trio. Still, 27 city/25 highway is great for a midsize SUV with a 3,500-pound towing capacity.

The base price of $34,700 is for a five-seat version; add another $2,800 for the package that includes the third-row seat. We have not yet had the opportunity to measure fuel economy on a Highlander Hybrid, but a brief test drive left a very favorable impression.
