BMW X6 ActiveHybrid

2010 BMW X6

The 2010 BMW X6 ActiveHybrid is a new addition to this “Sports Activity Coupe” lineup. X6 seats four, has standard all-wheel drive, is slightly larger than BMW’s 5-Series midsize sedans, and features a raised suspension similar to the company’s X5 SUV. It will compete against Mercedes-Benz’s ML450 HYBRID. The ActiveHybrid should pair a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor for at least 420 horsepower. The sole transmission should be a continuously variable automatic.

Unlike the 750i ActiveHybrid, X6 can run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. No plug-in charging is required. Standard features should include BMW’s iDrive interface and Dynamic Performance Control, which works with the AWD system to distribute torque between the individual rear wheels.

BMW has not yet announced availability or prices for the 2010 X6 ActiveHybrid. It should cost more than the $55,900 base price of the 2009 X6 xDrive35i.
