Just like your kid, Scion’s xB grew up fast. A 2008 redesign saw the xB get bigger and much more powerful. Still not a rocket, the xB is sporty enough, and additionally fun to drive when had with the standard 5-speed manual transmission. It’s not all that frugal, however, with a city EPA rating of just 22 mpg.
The original box on wheels, xB benefits from its practical shape in terms of people and cargo space. The xB also boasts one of the nicer cabins in this comparison, with plenty of nicely grained plastics and the occasional padded surface. Be careful at the dealer, as Scions are available with a dizzying array of add-on-bling bits that add little to the car’s basic functionality, and a lot to the final price.
