Notably easy on gas and a hoot to drive, Honda Fit does an outstanding job of balancing fun and practicality. Don’t let the low base price fool you, though. Basics like cruise control can only be had by upgrading to the Sport model ($16,260), and an antiskid system is only offered on the top-end Sport with Navigation model ($18,960).
It’s best to think of Fit as a premium economy car, with the emphasis on the economy. Consumer Guide’s extended-use Fit with automatic transmission is averaging nearly 31 mpg. And thanks to its upright design, Fit fits (sorry) four adults with space to spare. Fit is most fun equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission. The light clutch and slick shifting transmission make the most of this little Honda’s available power.
