2009 Mini Cooper Convertible

2009 Mini Cooper Convertible
Mini redesigned its Cooper convertible for 2009, bringing it in line with its updated-for-2008 hatchback sibling. Fresh styling and a bit more power increase the fun factor: Base models come standard with a 118-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine; sportier S versions are turbocharged and have 172 horsepower (vs. last year’s 168).

Convertibles have a power-folding fabric top with a heated-glass rear window and a sunroof mode that opens the top above the front seats. Though dismal top-up rear visibility may spoil some of the fun, Cooper convertibles still shine for their blend of razor-sharp handling and spunky, retro-funky personality. Cooper gets extra points for its fuel economy skills; one test example in Consumer Guide’s fleet averaged 32.5 mpg on premium fuel. If judiciously optioned, prices are fair as well; a Base convertible starts at $23,900 with S models climbing to $26,800.
