Navistar's International Truck and Engine Corporation made "big" news at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show with the debut of its new top-of-the-line 2009 LoneStar Class 8 semi-tractor. The retro-styled LoneStar features a chromed V-shaped grille that was inspired by the classic International D-Series truck the company introduced for 1937.

Dave Allendorph, LoneStar's chief designer, called the design a "modern interpretation of a classic."

With the new design, International is trying to combine the best characteristics of classic and aerodynamic truck styling. International claims that the LoneStar's design contributes to a five- to fifteen-percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to other classic truck designs. According to the company, this can mean annual fuel savings of $3000 to $8000.

International says the LoneStar offers advanced ride and handling and class-leading quietness. Standard features include ABS and traction control.

The "Suite" interior features wood flooring, a sofa, a fold down bed, closed airliner-style storage cabinets, a desk-like workplace, a mini refrigerator, and other amenities.

International will begin accepting orders for LoneStar in April 2008. Production begins in August at Navistar's plant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.
