2007 Nissan Altima
Nissan unveiled new generations of its pair of midsize sedans at the 2006 New York Auto Show. The redesigned 2007 Nissan Altima and restyled 2007 Maxima are the fourth and fifth new or redesigned vehicles unveiled by the Japanese automaker for the 2007 model year. This pair follows the introductions of the Sentra and Versa at the Detroit auto show in January and the quest at the Chicago Auto Show in February.
The fourth-generation Altima rides on a new platform, internally called Nissan D, and features a revised suspension and increased body rigidity. Wheelbase is shorter than the previous Altima by one inch. Engine choices include a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6. Newly available is a CVT, a first for Altima. Nissan claims that torque steer, a common complaint among owners of previous-generation Altimas, is a thing of the past. S, SE, and SE-R trim levels carry-over from the previous generation. Other new-for-2007 features include more interior small items storage as well as a redesigned interior gauge layout.
The 2007 Nissan Altima will go on sale in the fall of '06, followed by a hybrid model in early 2007.
2007 Nissan Maxima
Maxima also receives a midcycle freshening for 2007. Exterior changes include a new grille, revised hood, redesigned headlights, new wheels, and new front and rear bumpers. A revised instrument panel and upgraded materials mark the redesigned sedan's interior.
Like Altima, a CVT is now standard. Nissan also re-announced its commitment to CVT technology and aims to sell 1 million CVT vehicles throughout 2007. Maxima will be available in the summer of 2006.
