2007 Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai is revamping its best-selling car for 2007. The redesigned Hyundai Elantra, uncovered at the 2006 New York Auto Show, is the 7th redesigned or all-new product from the South Korean automaker in 2 years, the last in its 24/7 plan. Last month, Hyundai passed a sales milestone of one million Elantras sold since the car's debut.

The compact Elantra grows in size for 2007 and, like Hyundai's other recently redesigned entries, gets more standard safety features. The freshened Elantra has standard ABS as well as 6 standard air bags (two in the front, two front-seat mounted side-impact airbags, and curtain side airbags), trumping competitors like the Chevrolet Cobalt and Toyota Corolla, where they are optional. Three trim levels will be offered: GLS, SE, and Limited. Added standard features on Limited include leather heated front seats.

The 4-door sedan is 2.2 inches taller and two inches wider for 2007, giving it three percent more interior space than the previous generation. Execs claim the new body is 49 percent stiffer than the previous model. Exterior changes include new headlights, chrome grille, and body color door handles, mirrors, and bumpers.

Expect to see the '07 Elantra on-sale this fall with a base price of under $14,000. On the 2006 Hyundai Elantra, prices for the base sedan start at $13,675. Production of a GT hatchback model was not announced.
