Acura MDX Concept
Acura's premium midsize SUV, MDX, was first introduced by Honda's premium brand in 2001. At the 2006 New York Auto Show, the Japanese automaker unveiled the MDX concept, set to replace the current-generation model for 2007, and the production version of the RDX premium compact SUV.
This second-generation MDX concept is a thinly veiled production SUV set to go on sale as a 2007 model later this fall. Its exterior changed significantly with its lower and wider stance, new five-sided grille, rear spoiler, 20-inch wheels, and wrap-around LED taillights.
MDX, which stands for multi-dimensional luxury crossover, again seats seven passengers and is said to come with Acura's super handling AWD that's mated to a more-powerful V6 engine.
Despite Acura's Japanese roots, the MDX will be completely designed and manufactured in North America, following the lead of the 2006 model-year MDX, which is made in Canada.
Acura recently celebrated its 20th anniversary as the first Japanese-brand luxury vehicle nameplate and will begin the production of MDX later in 2006.

2007 Acura RDX
RDX is Acura's first compact SUV. The five-seat wagon is powered by the company's first turbocharged engine, a 240-hp 4-cylinder teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission. It's 2 inches shorter in wheelbase and 8 inches shorter overall than MDX. RDX has Acura's super-handling all-wheel drive (AWD) system that apportions power between the rear wheels to enhance cornering stability. ABS and traction/antiskid control are standard, as are front side airbags and curtain side airbags.
Also standard are dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery with heated front seats, and a 6.5-inch dashboard screen that displays audio and climate information. A technology package includes DVD audio, cell phone link, and a navigation system with real-time traffic information for 30 major cities. Acura estimates RDX will start at about $30,000 when it goes on sale this summer.
