Collectible Automobile
Collectible Automobile magazine won the 2009 Richard and Grace Brigham Award for excellence in automotive history publishing.

Collectible Automobile®, a consumerguide.com companion publication, has been honored by the Society of Automotive Historians (SAH) for the magazine’s coverage of automotive history.

The bimonthly magazine is the winner of the 2009 Richard and Grace Brigham Award, which is given for the best treatment of automotive history by a periodical. Entries were judged on the content and presentation of all issues published during 2008. Among the topics covered in CA during the year were the downsizing of General Motors cars for 1977, the cars of 1952, Canadian Pontiacs of 1926-65, the history of the business coupe, and profiles of former industry figures. The presentation took place on October 9 at the SAH’s annual meeting and awards dinner at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Frank Peiler is the Publisher of Collectible Automobile®. John Biel is the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Chris Poole is Editor-at-Large, Harry Kapsalis is Art Director, and Damon Bell is Research and Acquisitions Editor. Other consumerguide.com editors who contributed to CA during 2008 include Tom Appel, Rick Cotta, Ed Piotrowski, Don Sikora II, and Jack Stewart. In addition to contributions from the resident staff, CA counts on seasoned freelance authors and photographers for in-depth feature articles and pictures of restored cars and trucks. First published in 1984, the 96-page magazine is now read by old-car buffs around the world.

CA previously won the Brigham Award in 1993 and 2001. (Publications that win the award are not eligible to compete for it again for five years.) The SAH established the award in 1990 in honor of two of the organization’s founders.

The Society of Automotive Historians was founded in 1969 and now claims a membership surpassing 900 members in the United States and more than 20 other countries. According to its website, the not-for-profit society exists to “encourage research, preservation, recording, compilation, and publication of historical material of every type” and to “assist fellow members in obtaining historical information and material.”
