Although treated to a styling update for 2006, BMW's flagship 7-Series sedan has been out of the limelight while a new family of 3-Series sedans, coupes, and convertibles were being rolled out. That changes for 2007 with the introduction of the Alpina B7.
Tweaked by German aftermarket tuner Alpina, the B7 features a 500-horsepower supercharged 4.4-liter V8, 21-inch wheels, and sportier suspension tuning than other 7-Series offerings.
Though 7-Series sedans are offered in two wheelbases, Alpinas will be offered only on the shorter, standard-length car. Alpinas will begin arriving in showrooms this summer with a starting price of around $115,000. BMW says only 200 Alpinas will be imported for 2007.
Alpina's relationship with BMW began in 1961 when the company began making high-performance intake parts for the 1500 sedan. Since that time BMW and Alpina have cooperated on a number of projects, the most recent to be imported stateside was the 2002 Z8 Alpina roadster.
