The 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan receives freshened styling and some new standard features. Volkswagen's compact SUV seats 5 and comes in base S, mid-level SE, and top-line SEL trims. All are available with front- or all-wheel drive. A 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is standard across the board. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on the front-drive S. Optional on that model and standard on all others is a 6-speed automatic. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Tiguan S models have cloth seats. SE versions have VW's "leatherette" vinyl upholstery with heated front seats. SEL has standard leather upholstery. A wireless cell-phone link is standard on all models. SEL models have a sport suspension. A sunroof is optional on the S and SE and versions so equipped are priced as separate models. A navigation system is optional on the SE and standard on the SEL. The SEL is available with a navigation system that includes voice recognition and a hard drive for storing digital-music files.
