The 2012 Lincoln MKZ sees no major changes pending a redesign due in calendar 2012 as a 2013 model. This premium-midsize car shares its basic design with the Ford Fusion. Base MKZ models have a 263-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The Hybrid is front-wheel drive and pairs a 2.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine with a battery-powered electric motor for 191 horsepower total. It can run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. No plug-in charging is required. The Hybrid uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Available on the Base is a Sport Appearance Package, which includes a sport suspension, 18-inch wheels, and specific interior and exterior trim. Ford's Sync voice-activated control for cell phones and MP3 players is standard. Blind-spot alert is also available. It incorporates Ford's Cross Traffic Alert system, which activates when the transmission is in reverse; it detects any traffic moving toward the vehicle. Heated and cooled front seats and a 10-way power passenger seat are standard on all. An optional Executive Package includes specific interior trim.
