2012 Honda Crosstour: What is it?
Formerly known as the Honda Accord Crosstour, this 4-door hatchback is built on the Accord platform, but you'd never know it by looking. It differs from the Accord Sedan and Coupe by virtue of its unique styling, raised suspension, and available all-wheel drive. As such, it could almost be classified as a midsize SUV, though its sloping rear roofline doesn't allow the cargo versatility of a squared-off wagon bodystyle. The Honda Crosstour is built in the U.S.
2012 Honda Crosstour: What's New
Besides dropping "Accord" from its official model name, the Crosstour adds availability of a 4-cylinder engine to the carryover V6.
2012 Honda Crosstour: Model Lineup Features and Options
There are two trim levels: EX and EX-L. Each is offered in 4-cylinder and V6 versions with front-wheel drive. EX-Ls with either engine can be ordered with a navigation system, and they are listed as separate models. The EX-L V6 (with or without navigation) is also available with all-wheel drive.
Even the base EX models come very well equipped. Standard features include tilt/telescopic steering wheel w/radio controls, cruise control, power driver seat with lumbar adjustment and height adjustment, split folding rear seat, heated power mirrors/windows/locks w/remote, sunroof, digital-media player connection, USB port, wireless cell-phone link, and rearview camera.
Jumping to the EX-L adds such niceties as leather upholstery, heated front seats with driver-seat memory, and satellite radio.
There are no options on any model.
2012 Honda Crosstour: Engines, Transmissions, and Drive Wheels
Newly standard is a 192-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. Returning is a 271-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 with Honda's Variable Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation. A 5-speed automatic is the sole transmission for all Crosstour models. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board. The top V6 model can be equipped with all-wheel drive.
2012 Honda Crosstour: Fuel Economy
The new 4-cylinder engine brings with it better mpg numbers; it's EPA rated at 21 city/29 highway vs. the V6's 18/27 (or 18/26 with all-wheel drive). Both engines use regular-grade gas.
In Consumer Guide testing, a front-drive Crosstour averaged 23.6 mpg, while AWD versions averaged 20.0-22.1 mpg.
2012 Honda Crosstour: Safety Features
All 2012 Crosstours come with the usual assortment of safety features, as well as a rearview camera. There are no optional ones.
