2011 Maserati GranTurismo: Overview

The 2011 Maserati GranTurismo sees few changes following the addition of a convertible body style for 2010. This 4-passenger coupe and convertible shares much of its basic design with the Maserati Quattroporte sedan. The base GranTurismo is available as both coupe and convertible. The sporty S is only offered as a coupe. A GranTurismo Convertible Sport with a 450-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 will be offered as a 2012 model. The base model is powered by a 405-horsepower 4.2-liter V8. S has a 433-horsepower 4.7-liter V8. Both use a 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-column-mounted shift paddles. Unlike most front-engine cars, the GranTurismo has a rear weight bias, which Maserati says improves handling. Adjustable suspension with Normal and Sport settings is standard on the base convertible and S, while optional on the base coupe. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. Standard on all models are dual-zone climate control, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, and a rear obstacle detection system. Also standard are a navigation system, power adjustable front seats with memory that power forward to ease entry to the rear seats and a power tilt and telescopic steering column. A 5-piece luggage set designed to fit the GranTurismo's trunk is available. This evaluation is based on preview test drives.
