Vehicle Highlights
The 2011 Chevrolet Caprice is coming to the North American market, but it will only be available to police fleets. Caprice borrows some elements of basic design from the Holden Commodore, which is produced by General Motors' Australian subsidiary. The Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) is powered by a 355-hp 6.0-liter V8 engine that includes GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation and is capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. The sole transmission is a 6-speed automatic. A V6 version of this car is slated to arrive in calendar 2011 as a 2012 model. Available safety features should include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. The Caprice PPV includes two batteries, with one dedicated to powering assorted police equipment. The car's front seats have been specially designed for police work and include space to accommodate an officer's equipment belt. The dashboard can be equipped with a touch-screen computer. We have not tested the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice.
