2010 GMC Terrain
The new-for-2010 GMC Terrain shares its basic design with the redesigned Chevrolet Equinox.

More reorganization is in store for these General Motors divisions during model-year 2010. Just when it seemed that these brands had all their ducks in a row, the recent sales downturn and government-managed bankruptcy threw them back into disarray. Now that the dust has settled, this perfect storm of bad events is claiming another victim. Pontiac, a brand that once outsold all others except Chevrolet and Ford, will fade away after the 2010 model year.

A few 2010 Pontiacs will find their way to dealer lots. Other than that, Buick and GMC will carry the mantle. Note that models not mentioned here see minor trim or otherwise no significant changes.

2010 Buick LaCrosse: Buick’s mainstream sedan undergoes a clean-sheet redesign. It comes in CX, CXL, and sporty CXS trim levels. For the first time, LaCrosse will offer a 4-cylinder engine: A 182-horsepower 2.4-liter unit. A 255-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 is offered on the CX and CXL. The CXS has a 280-horsepower 3.6-liter V6. Among the available features are blind-spot alert, navigation system, rearview camera, DVD entertainment, and head-up display.

2010 GMC Acadia:
A new, lower-cost SL trim level joins mainstream SLE and top-end SLT.

2010 GMC Terrain: This is GMC’s first five-passenger crossover SUV. It shares its basic design and powertrains with the Chevrolet Equinox. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available, along with 4-cylinder and V6 engines. Terrain marks one of the first applications of GM’s Active Noise Cancellation system, which is designed to quell mechanical noise. A rearview camera is standard, as is GM’s MultiFlex rear seat that can slide up to 8 inches to benefit passenger or cargo room. Other available features include a navigation system, DVD entertainment, and 40-gigabyte hard drive for storing digital music files.

2010 Pontiac G6: As GM phases out the Pontiac brand, the midsize G6 sedan lineup shrinks to a single sedan model. The coupe and hardtop convertible have been discontinued. G6 offers 4-cylinder or V6 power; the V6 can run on E85 ethanol-blended fuel.

Note that the 2010 Pontiac G3 and Vibe were produced in limited numbers, and some of these cars may still be available on dealer lots. The G5, G8, Solstice, and Torrent have already been discontinued.
