Cabin feels upscale, with well-assembled, high-quality materials and fine control movement. Shoppers in warm climates should probably avoid the aluminum trim that comes on the steering wheel and shift knob, as they get quite hot on sunny days. This trim is standard on the T5 R-Design and included as part of the T5's optional Preferred Package.

C30 has ample headroom and legroom. Seats are firm yet comfortable and nicely bolstered for spirited cornering. A standard tilt and telescopic steering column helps tailor good driving position.

Minimal, even by small hatchback standards. Rear seatbacks fold easily, though the load floor isn't flat and the rear hatch opening is tight and oddly shaped. Some testers disliked the C30's all-glass hatch, which leaves cargo plainly visible from the outside. Small-items storage space is also subpar.

Volvo's entry-level hatchback is easy to live with and feels "Euro premium." The T5 R-Design model's taut ride will likely turn off some shoppers, and bargain pricing isn't part of the equation. Sticker prices can quickly spiral past the $30K mark as options are added.
