David Hogan
The Forester XT's turbo power is very pleasing, and the vehicle is quick enough to be a stoplight-derby sleeper. But I was disappointed by the cheap interior materials, blah steering response, and heaviness in cornering. I like the Subaru personality, but I'd certainly look at other, similar vehicles--notably from Hyundai--before I committed to the Forester.

Forester is yet another vehicle that I desperately want to like but can't recommend because, overall, it feels built to a price that's far less than what Subaru wants us to pay. The turbocharged XT is probably the best model because it has plenty of power that's surprisingly linear. It handles well, and is pretty fun to drive. However, Forester doesn't exude the overall sense of quality that you get in vehicles such as the Honda CR-V or even the 2010 Chevy Equinox.

This Forester gets props for its peppy turbocharged engine, but in return, you get a loud note that never quite fades. Road noise is also very intrusive.
