The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class lineup gains a gas/electric hybrid model. The M-Class seats five. It comes in five models. The ML350 reprises a 268-hp 3.5-liter V6. The ML350 BlueTEC uses a 210-hp 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 that's emissions-legal in all 50 states. The ML550 continues with its 382-hp 5.5-liter V8. Topping the line is the high-performance ML63, tuned by Mercedes' AMG performance division. It has a 503-hp 6.2-liter V8. All conventional M-Class models have a 7-speed automatic transmission and are offered with all-wheel drive. The ML350 is also available with rear-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity is 7200 lb.

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 HYBRID pairs a 3.5-liter V6 engine with an electric motor for 355 hp. The hybrid system allows ML450 to run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. No plug-in charging is necessary. Unlike conventional M-Class models, the HYBRID has a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Available safety features for every M-Class include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front and rear side airbags, and curtain side airbags. All have a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, wood interior trim, and Mercedes' Tele Aid assistance system. The ML63 has 20-inch wheels. Among the available features are a navigation system, rearview camera, and power liftgate. M-Class models use Mercedes' PRE-SAFE safety system that senses an impending collision and tightens the seatbelts and moves the front passenger seat to a safer position. PRE-SAFE also closes an open sunroof if a rollover is detected.
