M35 models have plenty of power, even with the added weight of AWD.
Rear-drive M45s are fast by any measure. A test example ran from 0-60 mph in just 6.0 seconds. The automatic transmission in the M35x and M45 sometimes pauses indecisively on downshifts. Its manual-shift feature is quicker to react to drive inputs than similar systems in rival vehicles.

In Consumer Guide testing, AWD M35x test cars averaged 17.0-18.8 mpg. Rear-drive M45s averaged 16.0-17.7 mpg in city/highway driving and 18.8-19.1 in mostly highway use. Infiniti recommends premium-grade gas for M35 and requires it for M45.

Generally confident and balanced, with minimal cornering lean. Steering feel can seem heavy and slightly unnatural feeling in turns. With the Sport Package, the tires tend to follow most ruts and pavement imperfections. Braking is strong and confident.

Coarse-surface tire thrum is noticeable, and the V6 can be quite raspy at higher rpm. The M45's V8 engine is notably smoother and quieter.

Bright and clear gauges. Most controls are arrayed on keyboard-like shelf, and they are numerous enough to demand study. Some are a reach away, and sunshine can neutralize indicator lights. Closer to the driver are traditional audio knobs and buttons. The navigation system is easy to operate. Voice recognition responds accurately to command keywords. Lane departure beeps a lane-change warning unless the turn signal is used. The system can be disabled, though that's done via an inconvenient button located low and left of the steering column.

M's cabin imparts a generally upscale features, though some trim pieces are a bit dowdy for a premium car. Interior materials consist of satin-finish wood or real metal, precise-movement switchgear, and ample soft-touch surfaces.

Generous room on supportive seats. The standard power tilt and telescopic steering wheel helps fine-tune driver positioning. Thick pillars and small rear quarter windows obscure over-the-shoulder visibility.

The seat is firm and nicely contoured. Fine knee clearance, but tight foot space with the front-seat height lowered. A middle rider will straddle the tall driveline hump, making the M's rear bench only practical for two passengers.
