The 2009 Volvo XC60 is an all-new crossover compact SUV. XC60 shares its basic design with the Volvo S80 sedan and Land Rover's LR2 premium compact SUV. The XC60 is slated to receive a turbocharged 281-hp 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. A 6-speed automatic will likely be the only transmission, and the XC60 should only be available with all-wheel drive.

Available safety features should include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Other available features should include leather upholstery, sporty handling and appearance upgrades, rear obstacle detection, a navigation system, and Volvo's City Safety accident-avoidance feature, which automatically activates the brakes at low speeds to avoid an imminent rear-end collision. Volvo's BLIS system, designed to detect and warn of unseen objects nearby, should also be available, along with lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a collision warning system that uses audible and visual warnings to alert inattentive drivers to an impending collision. We have not yet tested the 2009 Volvo XC60.
