The 2009 Volkswagen GTI is largely unchanged, but the high-performance R32 model has been discontinued. This sporty hatchback has front-wheel drive and either 2 or 4 doors. Both body styles have a turbocharged 200-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive R32 with its V6 engine was a limited-edition model in 2008 that did not return for 2009. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front and rear side airbags. An Autobahn Package includes leather upholstery and a sunroof. Heated front seats are newly standard on the 2009 GTI.
