From the Back Seat

Don Sikora

In most-affordable Sport trim, Volkswagen's CC is one of the most impressive new cars I've driven in some time. It manages to look much more expensive than you expect at the price with its swoopy roofline and swanky two-tone interior, and with VW's well-respected 2.0T engine and a smooth-shifting 6-speed stick the CC is fun-to-drive, surprisingly refined, and even quite frugal with a gallon of premium gas. CC isn't for everyone since the rear seat will only fit two, but anyone who yearns for a bit more than the everyday midsize four door should give the CC a serious look.

Ed Piotrowski

CC is one of the few cars that makes the driver feel as if he or she is piloting a far more expensive vehicle than what the window sticker indicates. Solid, sporty, quiet, and luxurious, this car is an ideal way for the upwardly mobile to drive something special without any pretentiousness.

Rick Cotta

In these days of rapidly escalating prices, it's rare we get into a vehicle that seems to be worth more than it costs. But at least in stick-shift form, the CC is just such a car. Not only does it look more expensive than it is--both inside and out--it also drives like it, with refined behavior that justifies its premium label. Only Volkswagen's less-than-impressive reliability record clouds the picture. If the company ever gets that straightened out, the CC--along with most other offerings in the VW line--are destined for Best Buy status.

Tom Appel

Luxury to the people! VW's delightful CC looks like a $50,000 car, performs like a $40,000 car, but lists for under $30,000 when judiciously outfitted. The 2.0T engine with manual transmission makes for a rewarding, distinctly European driving experience and delivers surprisingly good fuel economy. The CC would make a fine Audi, but luckily for value-minded luxury intenders, it's a VW.
