Vehicle Highlights
The 2009 Toyota 4Runner is largely unchanged. This midsize SUV uses traditional truck-type construction. 4Runner comes in SR5, Sport Edition, and Limited trims. All offer a 236-hp 4.0-liter V6 or a 260-hp 4.7-liter V8 engine. A 5-speed automatic is the only transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard. V6 versions offer 4-wheel drive that can be left engaged on dry pavement. V8 models are available with all-wheel drive. Both systems include a low-range gear for off-roading and hill ascent and descent control. Maximum towing capacity is 5000 lb with the V6 and 7300 lb with the V8. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. SR5s and Limiteds are available with a 3rd-row seat to increase capacity to seven passengers from five. A sport suspension is standard on Sport Editions, optional for Limiteds. A load-leveling suspension is available on V8 Limiteds equipped with the sport suspension. Other options include DVD entertainment and navigation system with rearview camera.
