Vehicle Highlights

The 2009 Saturn Astra receives no major changes following its introduction for the 2008 model year. It should be noted, however, that Saturn will not sell the 2009 Astra in the United States, but it is available in Canada. This compact car comes as a hatchback with 2 or 4 doors. It shares its basic design with the Opel Astra built by GM's European subsidiary. XE and top-line XR trim levels are available for 4-door models; 2-door versions are XR only. Both use a 138-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags and front side airbags. GM's OnStar assistance is standard. A sport suspension and 17-inch wheels are standard on the XR 2-door and optional on the XR 4-door. Available features include a large, two-panel sunroof, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. Note that the Astra has conventional steel body panels, not the dent-resistant plastic panels that were once a Saturn hallmark. This report is based on evaluations of the 2008 Saturn Astra.
