The 2009 Nissan Versa lineup gains a new entry-level model. These compact cars slot beneath Nissan's Sentra in size and price. New for 2009 are the Versa 1.6 Base and 1.6 sedans, which have a 107-hp 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine. Also available are the Versa S and SL, which come as a sedan or 4-door hatchback. Those models have a 122-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the 1.6 Base and 1.6. The S has a 6-speed manual. Available on the 1.6 and S and standard on the SL sedan is a 4-speed automatic. The SL hatchback has a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Available safety features include ABS, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. All Versa models have standard air conditioning, except the 1.6 Base, where it's not available. Optional on S and standard on SL are cruise control, remote entry, and power locks and windows. A wireless cell-phone link, keyless access and engine start, remote engine start, and a sunroof are optional on the SL.
