Mitsubishi draws on the success of its sporty Lancer Evo to breathe new life into its decidedly less sporty Outlander SUV.
Mitsubishi Outlander GT Concept
Aside from its fast-and-furious Lancer Evos, Mitsubishi products tend to fade into the background of their respective classes. Now the company wants to exploit some of the Evo's jet-fighter appeal to give the compact-SUV Outlander a supersonic shot in the arm.
Aside from its towering rear wing, perhaps the most recognizable styling element of the Evo is its gaping-mouth grille, which in concert with its snarling headlight eyebrows, gives the car a sinister look. That face--and attitude--transfers to the Outlander GT prototype nearly intact. Backing up the bark with some bite is the company's Super-All-Wheel-Control System offering superior handling along with a tweaked version of the Outlander's 3.0-liter V6.

The Lancer Evo has garnered numerous accolades and come to define Mitsubishi in the marketplace. So although the Evo-inspired Outlander GT is just a prototype in New York, it's hard to imagine it won't be a reality in the future.
CG Says...
It would be nice for Mitsubishi if it could sell versions of its
products that weren't track ready. Sadly, Outlander is lost in a sea Honda CR-Vs, Saturn Vues, and Toyota RAV4s, and it's tough to see how a dose of body-kit steroids is going to change matters much.
