Vehicle Highlights

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class gets no major changes. This premium midsize car continues in sedan and wagon body styles available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Four models are offered. E350s have a 268-hp 3.5-liter V6. E550s have a 382-hp V8. The E320 BlueTEC has a 210-hp turbodiesel V6. The high-performance E63 has a 507-hp V8 along with a sport suspension. All rear-drive models have a 7-speed automatic transmission; E63 adds manual-shift steering-wheel buttons. AWD models have a 5-speed automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front and rear side airbags. An air suspension with driver-adjustable shock absorbers is standard on E550 and E63. Mercedes' 4Matic AWD is available on E350 and E550.

All E-Class models are available as sedans; the E350 and E63 are also available in wagon form. Optional for E350 and standard on E550 is a Sport Package that includes lowered suspension, 18-inch wheels, and unique trim. Other options include steering-linked bi-xenon headlamps and adaptive cruise control. Also available are heated and ventilated front seats and keyless access and starting. Front- and rear-obstacle detection is available for sedans. So is Mercedes' full-length Panorama glass roof with a power tilt and slide panel above the front seats. A newly available audio unit with voice control combines a wireless cell-phone link and 6-disc CD/DVD changer. The new audio unit has optional features such as a navigation system with real-time traffic updates, HD radio, MP3 connectivity, and a hard drive that stores 4 gigabytes of digital music files.
