2009 Kia Optima: Overview

The 2009 Kia Optima gets fresh styling, a new trim level, and more power. Optima shares its basic design with the Hyundai Sonata, but the Kia differs in pricing, features, warranty coverage. Optima comes in LX, EX, and new-for-2009 SX trim levels. Each is available a 175-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 194-hp 2.7-liter V6 is available on the EX and SX. These represent gains of 13 hp and 9 hp, respectively, over the 2008 Optima. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the 4-cylinder LX. A 5-speed automatic is optional for that engine, and is standard on the V6. Available safety features includes ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Among the available features on the EX and SX are heated front seats, remote engine start, and a sunroof. We have not yet tested the 2009 Kia Optima.
