As great as the BMW 3-Series is, there's something to me that's a bit cold and distant about it. It goes about its business with a "straight face" as it were, doing exactly what a driver asks of it. Though a bit more crude around the edges, the Infiniti G37 has a more engaging personality. It more than holds its own in spirited driving and is a great highway cruiser as well, all at a great price. This is truly one of the best sedans you can buy, luxury or otherwise.

The ride's a "little" firm, and I wish the x models were available with manual transmissions, but I find little precious else to complain about here. This embiggened V6 makes great snarky noise when challenged, and delivers all sorts of power all over the rpm band. The cabin is classy and comfy, and even the price seems reasonable.

The G37S coupe seems to promise sports car thrills with everyday practicality, but for me it came up a bit short. A finicky clutch and shifter, grabby brakes, and an uncomfortably low roofline (I'm 6'6") made daily-grind driving a real... well, grind.

Infiniti's G37 coupe makes a wonderful companion for the upwardly mobile bachelor (or bachelorette as the case might be). I'm not completely sold on this manual-transmission model, as its sometimes balky shifter and stiff clutch would prove tiresome in the everyday grind. Kudos to Infiniti, though, for making all-wheel drive available on the coupe, thus making it a fun, all-weather sport-luxury car.
John Biel
The G37S Sport coupe is a lively, yet sophisticated, tourer. The only way to get the fully manual gearbox is with the Sport model, but it comes with a stiffer ride than some buyers might prefer (though it's hardly as brutal as that on some all-out sports cars). Coupes aren't practical, but even at $44,095 delivered--as this well-optioned test model was--this is still a good buy for the luxury-car buyer with a pulse.

I'd like a Porsche 911 for my daily commute, and I bet some of you would, too. But 911s are pricey, not especially practical, and they're a wee conspicuous. But if it's an engine you can feel, an exhaust note worth turning down the radio for, and spicy good looks you seek, consider the G37 coupe. For half the price of a 911 you get 80% of the thrills, and your insurance will cost less, too. Sure, the G37 isn't really a sports car, but with the 6-speed manual it acts like one, and it certainly feels like one. Fun when you want it to be, civilized (mostly) when you need, G37 makes a lot of sense if you only want to look grown up.

The G37 convertible's retracted hardtop gobbles up all but a sliver of the already mediocre trunk space though, so you'll have to pack very light. Other than that, this pleasant, luxurious, sporty droptop delivers almost all of its coupe sibling's many virtues with little compromise.
Rick Cotta
The G37 is a first-class convertible but sacrifices more than most to its folding hardtop. The rear seat goes from small to almost useless, and top-down, the trunk will only hold a weekend's worth of luggage if you're heading to a nudist colony.
