Despite the revised suspension tuning for 2009, I'm still underwhelmed by the Sonata's overall ride and handling composure. However, the newly pepped-up V6 is surprisingly gutsy, and the traditional Hyundai features-per-dollar ratio is intact, so Sonata remains a good value for the money.

The 2009 Hyundai Sonata is improved over the 2008 version, and remains a solid entry in the class that deserves consideration, even if it falls a bit short of being the class benchmark.

Sonata Limited blends competent V6 power, a comfortable cabin, and loads of features into a competitively priced package. While it may not trump Accord in the ride, handling, and overall refinement departments; Sonata is an excellent value and can hold its own against most rivals in this class.

Suspension sophistication lags that of its Accord rival, but in most other respects, Sonata matches or beats the top names in this class. The 3.3 V6 spots some displacement and horsepower to competing 3.5s, but is plenty strong enough for the mission. The only real downside is that while the Sonata has risen in quality to compete with the best in this class, so has its price, meaning it's no longer the bargain it once was.
