From the Back Seat

Damon Bell

The Fit is a bit pricy for its class, sluggish at low rpm, and rather noisy in highway driving. It's also very economical, astonishly space-efficient, and loads of fun to drive (at least in manual Sport form). It's easily the most-nimble car in its class, and a clear Best Buy.

Don Sikora

The new Honda Fit deftly manages to be fun to drive while providing good highway fuel economy. The compact body houses a surprising amount of room, and the clever rear seat folding mechanism helps improve practicality. But Fit shines more in urban settings, because on the highway the constant engine noise and jiggly ride can become tiresome. Other downsides include gauges and controls that were blocked from view when I had the steering wheel adjusted comfortably, and obvious cost-cutting measures like a carpet substitute on the floor and a poorly-packaged tool kit that clangs around whenever you hit a bump.

Jennifer Geiger

Fit Sport offers a great blend of fun-to-driveness, excellent maneuverability, and best-in-class cargo room.

Tom Appel

What more is there than fun and frugal? Well, refinement. For urban dwellers looking for a fuel sipper, here's you're ride. Twice the cabin space and much more power than a Smart ForTwo, for only a little more money. Still, Honda's own Civic is so much more refined. I think the line in the sand is highway time. If you make long trips, the Fit's cranky highway manners will wear on you quickly. But for around-town missions, this enjoyable tightwad is a great way to go.
