On tap to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Subaru's midsize car, the Legacy Concept foreshadows the model's 2011 redesign.

The Legacy Concept is larger and more powerful than the current production car, continuing a trend that began with the most recent redesigns of midsize sedans including the Honda Accord, Mazda 6, and Toyota Camry.

CG Says...
Don't expect Subaru to mess with success here. Look for the redesigned Legacy (and Outback) to look and feel very much like the current vehicles. Note that Subaru was one of the only brands to experience sales volume gains in 2008. Credit Subaru with cautious redesigns of proven packages, modest growth ambition, and knowing why its customers keep coming back for more.
The concept includes a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine borrowed from Subaru's Tribeca crossover. A 3.0-liter 6-cylinder is currently the largest engine offered. Count on the production car coming standard with a version of Subie's 2.5-liter 4-cylinder.

No word on an Outback variant of the next Legacy, but there's little chance that the popular SUV-flavored wagon won't return. An Outback sedan can't be ruled out, either. No word on pricing, but expect the 2011 Legacy to arrive in showrooms late in 2010.
