Following the Hyundai Genesis sedan's award as the 2009 North American International Car of the Year at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, the company announced details of the 2010 Genesis coupe at Chicago's show.

All Genesis coupe models have two doors and rear-wheel drive. Two engines are offered: A standard 210-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4 cylinder, and an optional 306-horsepower 3.8-liter V6. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission; a 5-speed automatic is available on the 2.0T and a 6-speed automatic is optional on the 3.8. Both automatics have a manual-shift mode and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 2.0-liter with the 6-speed manual returns an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway.

CG Says...
The Genesis sedan broke new ground for Hyundai in the premium large car segment, and it looks like the Genesis coupe intends to do the same in the sporty/performance car class. With a competitive price, performance aspirations, and many trim levels (some aimed at the popular "tuner" market), Hyundai may have a winning formula.
Trim levels include base 2.0T, luxury-themed 2.0T Premium, race-themed 2.0T Track, "tuner-focused" 2.0T R-Spec, uplevel 3.8, luxury-themed 3.8 Grand Touring, and race-themed 3.8 Track. The R-Spec debuts a few months after initial launch. All Genesis coupes include many standard features like a wireless cell-phone link, an iPod jack, and six airbags. Many go-fast and comfort-and-convenience features are available, including leather seats, a limited-slip differential, and Brembo-brand brakes.

Hyundai also announced its factory drift-racing program and partnerships with Red Bull and race driver Rhys Millen--a successful drift-league racer, Pikes Peak driver, and movie-industry stunt driver. He will pilot a modified Genesis coupe in three different racing series.

Pricing starts at $22,000 for the 2.0T base model, and tops out at $31,000 for a top-line 3.8 Track model. Genesis coupe will arrive at dealerships in late February.
