Silverado offers price, fuel economy, and configuration options that are better than most, but Ram offers more storage options and better ride with less rear hopping due to rear coil springs.

Silverado is a very good truck, just not with the optional 6.2-liter V8. If the less-powerful 5.3-liter V8 were not so smooth and refined, the 6.2 would look better. As it sits, though, the Escalade powertrain is there only for horsepower bragging rights. Save your money and stick with the 5.3. You'll never want for power and achieve better fuel economy, all on regular-grade gas (the 6.2 needs premium for best performance).

Nice as it is with the 6-speed transmission, the 6.2-liter V8 is probably a bit of wallet-sapping overkill if you don't have major towing needs. If you DO have major towing needs, well, enjoy! Overall, this is an enjoyable, practical truck that can be loaded up to near $47,000--as our test example was--but can still be a worthwhile buy for the budget-conscious with fewer extras tacked on it.
