I spent over 800 road miles in this car, and, well, I can't recommend it for long-haul cruising. Top-up, the interior is relatively spacious for a two-seat sports car, but it's still a very cozy place. The low-slung stance means you'll be sitting at door-handle level to most other cars, with your legs stretched out in front of you. On anything less than pristine pavement, the road noise inside the cabin can reach wearisome levels. Also, there are several sports cars on the market that deliver similar thrills for thousands less. Still, on a twisty two-lane with that glorious twin-turbo six delivering its high-rpm song, a Z4 can win over almost any driving enthusiast.

Z4 is great fun...until you look at the window sticker. Almost $60,000. For that kind of money, you can buy a Nissan 370Z and have enough left over for a Mini Cooper. If you're hell-bent on having the BMW logo on your hood, a 1-Series convertible is as enjoyable, costs less, and will have lower insurance rates because it has four seats.
