What is the point of this vehicle? I don't get it. The sloped roofline impedes rear visibility and cuts down on the already mediocre storage space of the sibling X5. Steamroller tires on gargantuan 20-inch wheels and a stiff, fidgety sport suspension counteract the X6's inherently high center of gravity and 5000-lb curb weight--this makes the handling relatively competent, but also makes for an always-nervous ride. At its $66,650 base price, this thoroughly compromised "Sports Activity Coupe" is a thoroughly unconvincing value. At the $80,620 sticker price of our loaded test vehicle, it's just plain silly.

X6 is all kinds of stupid. Stupid fast, stupid good handling, stupid looking, stupid expensive, etc. A diesel X5 is very nearly as fast, much more fuel efficient, and costs a heck of a lot less. If your BMW loyalty knows no bounds, that's where you should put your money, not here.

Jennifer Geiger

X6 is silly fast and surprisingly agile for its size, but those positives are quickly outweighed by fairly significant negatives like horrible rear visibility, an inflated price that gets worse with expensive options, and room for only four passengers despite its SUV size.

Tom Appel

Every journalistic bone in my body tells me to back away from this vehicle and never give it a second look. I am appalled by its price and brazen impracticality. But then I ask myself, "How is this different than a Corvette Z06 or a Nissan GT-R?" This is how it's different: It has a functional back seat and is outstanding in the snow. The X6 makes no sense compared to a conventional SUV. It starts to make sense when you realize how fast and nimble this silly beast is. I can't recommend that anyone buy an X6, but I completely understand why they might.
