From the Back Seat

The 2009 Acura TSX is really fun to drive and rides pretty well, but the overall noise level in the interior is too high and the back seat is tight for taller adults. I'm also a bit taken aback by the price, since the car strikes me as more of a nicely equipped midsize sedan than an entry level luxury car. A base Infiniti G35 sedan stickers for a couple hundred bucks less than our test car, but the Infiniti comes across as much more "premium" than this Acura manages to in spite of the G35's lower level of features (no navigation, etc.).

This test Technology Package TSX was a comfortable companion on a same-day run from Chicago to Dearborn, Michigan, and back. It didn't hurt that the car averaged 32.1 mpg of premium fuel on this Interstate-intensive drive. Still, its few shortcomings (noise, rear-seat room, cargo space) make it wise to carefully shop its competitors to determine the best fit for a buyer¿s tastes and needs.

The TSX is the perfect starter luxury ride for the aspiring junior partner with a zest for driving. Crisp handling, a rev-happy engine, and wonderful clutch and shifter work together to make commuting lots of fun. Prices are high, however. Our Technology Package car with manual transmission listed for nearly $33,000. For that money you're much of the way into an Audi A4 or BMW 3-Series.
