With prices this high (nearly $72,000 with options and delivery on this test vehicle), one wonders why corporate companion Lexus bothers to field a version of the Land Cruiser--or, perhaps more to the point--why this is a Toyota at all.

What an odd but likable Duck this Land Cruiser is. Let's cover the good stuff first. This is seriously strong, very refined, seats four in incredible comfort, and looks great. The bad? Our $70,000 tester didn't have a power liftgate, xenon headlamps, or an interior that matched the luxury sticker price. Toyota never imports many of these, so maybe price quibbling is moot. But the Cruiser probably makes some sense as a muted alternative to the brash Cadillac Escalade or seriously pricey Land Rover Range Rover.
