Vehicle Highlights
The 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser is largely unchanged following its 2007 introduction. This SUV is based on the 4Runner, but it has styling inspired by Toyota's 1960s-era Land Cruisers. FJ seats five and has two main doors, two rear-hinged rear access doors, and no pillar between. A swing-out cargo door has opening glass and mounts the spare tire. FJ comes with rear-wheel drive or with 4-wheel drive. The only engine is a 239-hp 4.0-liter V6. Automatic transmission is standard. The 4WD version is also available with manual transmission. Two 4WD systems are used. Both have a low-range gear for off-roading, but only the 4WD system used with manual transmission can be left engaged on dry pavement. Rear-drive FJs include a limited-slip rear differential. A locking rear differential is standard with manual transmission and 4WD, optional otherwise. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags.
