Assets: A modicum of style if you like the early 2000s look; good straight-line tracking; and a powertrain that delivers the goods, but on its own terms. Deficits: Looks old outside, feels old inside; creaking suspension; and whistling wind leaks from the side windows on the highway. Bottom line: Even with big discounts, there's no such thing as a sound deal on an unsorted vehicle.

Torrent GXP seems to be less than the sum of its parts. The overall package is pretty good from a passenger and cargo carrying standpoint, and the 3.6-liter V6 offers good power. But it rides hard, is noisy inside, and the engine and transmission don't always seem to be happy working together.
