We thought Buick's Invicta Concept would stop by the New York Auto Show on its way to the Shanghai show next month, but there was no such sighting. Here's what we do know about it in anticipation of its Shanghai debut.

Buick's Invicta Concept represents a joint effort between General Motors design centers in the U.S. and China. GM calls Invicta a premium car with international appeal, a gentle way of reminding the public that the Buick brand is now more popular in China than in the U.S. The sleek, low-roofed sedan is likely a design foreshadow of a large, top-of-the-line sedan due for both the U.S. and China early next decade.

CG Says...
Buick's surprising popularity in China seems to have injected new life into what was otherwise a dying brand. Let the Chinese design the sedans and the Americans the SUVs. Viva la renaissance!

The Invicta Concept borrows its name from a production model that was last built in the early Sixties.

Should it be produced, Invicta would be Buick's fourth U.S. Buick model, and join the LaCrosse midsize sedan, the Lucerne large sedan, and Enclave midsize crossover SUV. In China, Invicta would join the LaCrosse, Park Avenue, and Regal premium sedans, the Excelle compact sedan, and GL8 and FirstLand SUVs.
